UMaT SRC Highlights Key Student-Centred Initiatives at 2026 State of the SRC Address
The Students' Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has outlined a series of student-centred initiatives and ongoing projects during its 2026 State of the SRC Address (SOSA), reaffirming its commitment to student welfare, infrastructure development, and transparent leadership.

Addressing the student body, SRC President H.E. Emmanuel A. Washington announced that the Council has formally petitioned the University's Academic Board to reconsider the recently introduced resit fees following concerns raised by students. He noted that the SRC is awaiting the Board's response.

The President also disclosed that discussions with Telecel Ghana have resulted in an interim allocation of 9.99GB of data for students for the months of June and July. According to him, negotiations are ongoing to permanently increase the default data allocation, while ensuring the additional cost proposed by the telecom company is minimised.

On student welfare, Mr. Washington revealed that beneficiaries of the SRC Nyansapo Scholarship Scheme have increased from 120 to 140 students, with more deserving students expected to be added after verification.

He further announced that the current administration has become the first in UMaT SRC history to introduce the distribution of SRC souvenirs to the entire student body. Under the initiative, first-, second-, and third-year students will receive SRC souvenirs, while final-year students will receive SRC cloth.

Providing updates on infrastructure, the SRC President said all documentation for the proposed SRC Hostel Project has been completed, with the University's architects nearing completion of the revised architectural design. He also assured students that plans for the ultramodern bus shelter remain on schedule.

Mr. Washington reaffirmed the administration's commitment to accountability and transparency, stating that the SRC welcomes constructive criticism and remains dedicated to addressing students' concerns with clarity and evidence.
