The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has hosted a delegation of students and faculty members from Marist University in the United States as part of a Spring Attachment and Exchange Programme aimed at promoting academic collaboration, cultural exchange and entrepreneurship education.
Held from May 27 to June 9, 2026, the programme provided participants with an immersive learning experience focused on Ghana’s socio-economic environment, entrepreneurial ecosystem and cultural heritage. To encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing, students from Marist University were paired with UGBS students throughout the programme.
The exchange began with an orientation session led by Professor Elikplimi Agbloyor, Coordinator of the UGBS International Relations Unit, who introduced participants to the University of Ghana, UGBS, Ghanaian culture and key aspects of life in the country. The delegation also visited Madina Market to gain firsthand exposure to everyday economic activities and community life.
As part of the academic component of the programme, participants attended lectures and discussions on Ghana’s political history, governance systems, economic development and leadership. They also toured major landmarks in Accra, including the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Black Star Square, Makola Market and the Arts Centre to deepen their understanding of Ghana’s history and culture.
Entrepreneurship and innovation featured prominently throughout the programme. Sessions at the UGBS Innovation and Incubation Hub introduced participants to Ghana’s startup ecosystem, entrepreneurship opportunities and the challenges facing young entrepreneurs. Students engaged with startup founders and learned how innovation can be used to address social and economic challenges.
The delegation also visited several organisations, including Social Enterprise Ghana, Play and Learn Foundation, Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), Impact Hub Accra, MDF West Africa, Reusable Bags GH, Herb Gardens and Treasure Marks. These visits provided practical insights into social entrepreneurship, enterprise development, sustainability, innovation and business management in Ghana.
Beyond the classroom, participants travelled to the Volta Region and Cape Coast, where they explored cultural and historical sites and experienced traditional Kente weaving.
The programme concluded with an advanced entrepreneurship workshop focusing on business model development, innovation and entrepreneurial decision-making. Participants applied concepts learned throughout the programme through group activities and presentations.
According to organisers, the exchange strengthened international collaboration, expanded cross-cultural understanding and provided students with valuable exposure to Ghana’s business environment, innovation ecosystem and development landscape. The programme ended with a presentation ceremony where participants received commemorative packages in recognition of their participation.
