GES Warns Public Over Fake 2026 BECE School Selection Notice
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned candidates, parents, guardians, teachers and the general public to disregard a fake notice circulating on social media claiming that the 2026 BECE school selection exercise has commenced.

In a statement issued on June 14, GES described the publication as false and clarified that it had not announced the start of the 2026 school selection and placement process for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates.

According to the Service, the fraudulent notice falsely instructed candidates to select and submit five preferred schools for placement. It also claimed there was no deadline for submissions and provided an unofficial WhatsApp contact number for assistance.

GES stressed that the publication did not originate from the Service or any authorised government platform. The Service warned the public against sharing personal information or engaging with individuals behind the fake announcement, noting that such actions could expose candidates and their families to fraud and data theft.

The Education Service further urged Ghanaians to verify information before acting on or sharing it, particularly during the BECE period when candidates are vulnerable to misinformation that could affect important academic decisions.

GES assured stakeholders that all updates regarding the 2026 BECE school selection and placement exercise will be communicated through its official channels and authorised government platforms.

The Service reiterated its commitment to providing timely and accurate information and called on the public to remain vigilant against the spread of false information in the education sector.
