University of Ghana Approves New Policies on Sexual Misconduct, AI Use, and Teaching
The University of Ghana Council has approved three major policies aimed at strengthening student welfare, promoting responsible innovation, and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning across the institution.

The approved policies include a revised Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy, a new Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and a Teaching and Learning Policy. The decision followed recommendations from the Academic Board and the Business and Executive Committee.

The revised Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy updates earlier versions introduced in 2010 and revised in 2015. It broadens the definitions of sexual misconduct and consent, strengthens reporting mechanisms, and extends the University’s jurisdiction to cover former members of the university community. The policy also grants greater investigative and prosecutorial authority to the Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee, enabling it to recommend sanctions directly to the Vice-Chancellor and implement interim protective measures for victims.

The University has also introduced a Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence to guide students, faculty, and staff on the ethical and responsible application of AI in teaching, learning, research, and administration. The policy promotes inclusive access to AI technologies, accountability, data privacy, and excellence in academic practice.

Additionally, the newly approved Teaching and Learning Policy seeks to create an enabling environment for innovative and quality education. It outlines the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, provides guidance on online teaching, student assessment, evaluation of teaching, and the use of information and communication technology to support effective learning.

The University says the policies reflect its commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive, and future-ready academic environment that supports both student success and institutional excellence.
