The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Sekondi College (SEKCO) has announced plans to petition the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to grant 154 candidates another opportunity to sit for their Chemistry Theory and Objective examination after they were denied entry into the exam hall.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, after the students reportedly arrived late due to heavy rainfall in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis. As a result, they were prevented from writing the paper, despite some arriving shortly after the exam had begun.

According to PTA Chairperson Mercy Dadzie, some of the affected students, including her own ward, arrived only minutes late but were still refused entry by an external invigilator.

The PTA has therefore expressed concern over the strict enforcement of the examination rules, arguing that the students should have been allowed to write the paper with time deductions or sanctions rather than being completely barred.

Mrs. Dadzie noted that parents will also seek the intervention of the Western Regional Minister to help address the matter. She further appealed to WAEC to consider the future of the affected candidates and provide them with an opportunity to sit the examination.

The PTA maintains that while examination regulations are important, flexibility in exceptional circumstances such as severe weather conditions should be considered to prevent long-term consequences for students.
