The Ministry for the Interior has announced that Wednesday, May 27, 2026, will be observed as a statutory public holiday across Ghana in commemoration of Eid-Ul-Adha.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who urged the public to observe the day accordingly throughout the country.
Eid-Ul-Adha, popularly known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide through prayers, acts of charity and the symbolic sacrifice of livestock in honour of Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience and faith.
The occasion is also marked by family gatherings, the sharing of food with the needy and promoting values of generosity and gratitude within communities.
In Ghana, Eid-Ul-Adha remains a nationally recognised public holiday, reflecting the country’s commitment to religious diversity and inclusion, with individuals, institutions and businesses expected to take note and plan accordingly.
