The SRC Judicial Council is set to hear a petition challenging the actions of SRC President Shakir Is-Haq Waiz and other SRC officials at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) over alleged unconstitutional appointments and procedures within the student leadership, including the creation of unrecognized offices, induction of unvetted appointees, and parliamentary processes involving the Speaker and Vetting Committee.
Filed by Gideon Oduro, a final-year Law student and counsel to the petitioner, the case raises concerns about the legality and constitutional compliance of decisions taken within the SRC structure. It further questions the swearing-in of appointees described as “unfit,” as well as procedures linked to internal parliamentary oversight and vetting processes.
The hearing has been scheduled for Saturday, 2nd May at 11:00 a.m. at the SRC Secretariat, KNUST. The Council has indicated that proceedings will continue even in the absence of any party, with a ruling expected on the same day and final judgment to follow later as deemed appropriate. The case is expected to test the interpretation of SRC constitutional provisions and the extent of executive and parliamentary powers within the student governance system.
