The Ministry of Health has announced the payment of two-month arrears for newly recruited nurses as part of its commitment to addressing outstanding salary obligations within the health sector.
According to the Ministry, the next phase of payments will cover three months, from May to July 2026, in line with earlier assurances. It expressed appreciation to all affected health workers for their patience and cooperation during the process.
The Ministry also confirmed that plans are underway to recruit about 16,000 health workers this year as part of government efforts to strengthen the health workforce. So far, financial clearance has been secured for approximately 8,000 personnel, with additional approvals being pursued to cover the remaining intake.
It emphasized that no health worker will be recruited without proper financial clearance, adding that the clearances have been distributed across various health cadres to ensure a structured and gradual absorption process.
The Ministry further reiterated that the official recruitment portal remains the only approved channel for all recruitment activities, stressing that the measure is aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in the process.
While acknowledging challenges faced by some applicants due to high traffic on the portal, the Ministry assured that efforts are ongoing to improve access and address technical difficulties. It added that additional clearances are being pursued to accommodate more qualified health professionals into the system.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare workforce and improving service delivery across the country.
