The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission has maintained that there is no need for a formal load-shedding timetable despite recent power interruptions that have caused widespread concern among Ghanaians.
Acting Executive Secretary Dr Shafic Suleman says the current electricity disruptions do not amount to “dumsor” and insists that the power situation is being actively managed with stability expected soon.
Speaking on JoyNews on Monday, April 27, 2026, he explained that the ongoing outages are largely due to technical challenges and not a shortage of generation capacity, stressing that engineers are working to resolve the faults.
According to him, a recent incident on the transmission network, including a major fault at a Ghana Grid Company substation at Akosombo, temporarily reduced about 1,000MW of power supply, contributing to the disruptions.
He noted that repair works and system upgrades are underway to restore normal electricity flow, while long-term investments are being made to strengthen the national grid.
Dr Suleman further highlighted that the Electricity Company of Ghana is currently replacing and installing thousands of transformers across the country as part of efforts to improve distribution reliability.
He added that over 3,000 transformers have been procured to support affected areas and reduce future outages.
Meanwhile, the recent power interruptions have sparked frustration among households and businesses, many of whom are calling for an official timetable to help manage the unpredictable supply.
However, the PURC insists that the situation is under control and urged the public to remain calm, assuring that electricity supply will stabilise in the coming days as technical challenges are resolved.
