The 2026 Students’ Representative Council (SRC) elections at the University of Professional Studies, Accra have been postponed to Friday, April 24, 2026, following operational challenges that affected preparations for the polls.
In an official statement, the Electoral Commission said the elections, originally scheduled for Friday, April 17, could not proceed in a credible, timely, and transparent manner.
According to the Commission, voting was expected to begin at 7:00 a.m., but the final batch of official ballot papers arrived at about 11:00 a.m., several hours after the scheduled start time.
The Commission also disclosed that discrepancies were detected in parts of the printed ballot materials due to the compressed printing timeline, requiring immediate corrections before voting could commence.
It explained that the situation created agitation at polling centres and among students, leading to consultations with stakeholders and the eventual decision to postpone the election.
The Commission further cited earlier disruptions in the electoral calendar, including a disqualification dispute that resulted in the reinstatement of a candidate and a fresh balloting process for the Electoral Commission portfolio.
It added that budget approval and release of funds were only secured on Tuesday evening, just two days before the election, limiting time for ballot design, verification, printing, and distribution.
As part of the way forward, the Commission said all ballot materials would be reprinted and thoroughly verified with candidate representatives, while logistics across polling centres would also be strengthened.
The Electoral Commission apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured students and aspirants of its commitment to conducting a fair, credible, and transparent election.
The rescheduled elections will now be held on Friday, April 24, 2026.
