The University of Ghana has won the second edition of the National Banking and Ethics Challenge (NBEC 2.0), organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers Ghana in Accra.
The University of Ghana Business School topped the competition with 35 points, ahead of University of Professional Studies, Accra, which placed second with 29.5 points, while University for Development Studies came third with 26.5 points.
The grand finale, held at the CIB Ghana Auditorium, brought together students, faculty members, and key stakeholders from Ghana’s banking and finance sector.
This year’s edition saw a significant expansion, with 12 universities participating—more than double the number from the inaugural competition in 2025. Participating institutions included KNUST, UCC, UEW, Central University, Academic City University College, Wisconsin International University College, All Nations University, and Pentecost University College.
The competition progressed through preliminary and semi-final stages, testing students on key areas such as digital banking, cybersecurity, fraud prevention, financial literacy, ESG principles, and emerging trends like cryptocurrency.
Speaking at the event, President of the Institute, Benjamin Amenumey, described the initiative as a strategic investment in developing ethically grounded banking professionals for the future.
Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, Robert Dzato, also emphasised the importance of ethics in banking, noting that trust remains the foundation of the financial sector.
As part of the event, GCB Bank announced internship opportunities for all participants, while CIB Ghana offered certification discounts and registration waivers to encourage professional development.
Organisers say the competition is aimed at rebuilding trust in the banking sector and developing competent professionals to meet evolving financial industry demands.
