The Governing Council of University for Development Studies has appointed Professor Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University following a meeting held on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
The appointment is a major leadership development within the University, positioning Professor Iddrisu to take over the overall academic and administrative leadership of the institution.
He is currently the Principal of the Nyankpala Campus of UDS and is widely regarded as a seasoned academic and administrator. Over the course of his career, he has contributed significantly to teaching, research, and university governance, earning recognition for both academic output and institutional service.
His leadership at the Nyankpala Campus has been marked by efforts to expand academic programmes, strengthen staff development, and improve campus infrastructure and operations. These initiatives have contributed to enhancing the campus’s academic environment and operational efficiency.
The Governing Council noted that his appointment reflects confidence in his ability to advance the University’s strategic objectives and sustain its reputation for community-focused, practice-oriented higher education.
As Vice-Chancellor, Professor Iddrisu will be responsible for steering the University’s academic direction, administrative functions, and long-term development agenda, ensuring alignment with both national priorities and global academic standards.
The University community has been encouraged to support him as he assumes office. His tenure is expected to bring renewed leadership focus and institutional growth.
He will officially take office on June 27, 2026, serving a term that ends on August 31, 2030.
