Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) concluded its year-long 70th anniversary celebrations with a Grand Durbar and Alumni Homecoming at its Kumasi campus, marking seven decades since its founding as Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) in 1954.
The two-day event, held on Friday and Saturday, brought together alumni, staff, students, and key stakeholders to celebrate the institution’s evolution from a craft-course training centre into one of Ghana’s leading technical universities. The celebration also provided a platform to chart a forward-looking agenda for the university.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene represented Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang at the event. KsTU Chancellor Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor highlighted the university’s role in producing graduates who contribute significantly to Ghana’s industrial and technological development.
The anniversary year included a Chancellor’s Public Lecture and the launch of a History Book documenting the university’s 70-year journey. KsTU was also ranked fourth in Ghana in the inaugural QS World University Rankings: Sub-Saharan Africa 2026, reflecting its growing academic standing.
The celebrations were held under the theme: “70 Years of Excellence: Steering the Wheels of Technical and Academic Vocational Education.”
