University of Ghana Inaugurates New Advisory Board for College of Humanities
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has officially inaugurated a reconstituted Advisory Board for the College of Humanities, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, industry engagement, and strategic development.

The newly formed Board will serve a two-term tenure, with each term lasting two years. In her address, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the Board’s chairman, Zakari Mumuni, who also serves as the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, along with other distinguished members. She noted that their willingness to serve reflects a strong dedication to advancing higher education in Ghana.

Prof. Amfo emphasized the critical role of the Advisory Board as a bridge between academia and society, ensuring that teaching, research, and academic programmes remain aligned with global trends and industry demands. She highlighted that the Board’s composition—largely made up of members from outside the university—will help keep the institution connected to real-world developments.

She further outlined the University’s 2024–2029 strategic plan, which focuses on enhancing student experience, promoting impactful research, supporting faculty and staff, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring sustainable resource management.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, collaboration with industry is essential in today’s rapidly evolving world, making it necessary for universities to integrate external perspectives into curriculum development and academic planning.

Board members have been tasked with providing strategic guidance, serving as ambassadors for the College of Humanities, creating opportunities for students through their networks, and contributing actively to the College’s long-term direction.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Mumuni expressed appreciation to the University Council and Management for the trust placed in the Board. As an alumnus, he described his appointment as both an honour and a responsibility to contribute to the growth of the institution.

He assured the University community of the Board’s commitment to supporting academic excellence and institutional impact, adding that universities must remain innovative and responsive to societal needs.

The inauguration marks a significant step in the University’s efforts to deepen stakeholder engagement and position the College of Humanities as a key contributor to national and global development.
