UHAS Basic School Marks 5th Anniversary with Renewed Commitment to Excellence
The University of Health and Allied Sciences Basic School has marked its fifth anniversary with a renewed commitment to academic excellence, holistic education, and sustained institutional growth.

The celebration, held on March 18, 2026, at the university’s Cedi Auditorium, brought together management, staff, parents, learners, and invited guests to reflect on the school’s journey and outline its future direction.

Delivering the welcome address, the Head of School, Seth Korgah, described the milestone as a testament to resilience, recalling the difficulties of establishing the school during the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that despite early challenges, the school has grown into a promising centre of learning, recording steady academic progress, notable sporting achievements, and active participation in co-curricular activities such as career guidance programmes, cultural events, and community outreach initiatives. He also highlighted the institution’s charitable efforts supporting orphanages, hospitals, and vulnerable groups.

Mr. Korgah, however, acknowledged ongoing challenges, including inadequate classroom space, limited teaching and learning resources, an unstable water supply, and the need for additional computers and library materials. He appealed to stakeholders for continued support to enhance the school’s development.

Chairman of the occasion, Theophilus C. Fleischer, commended the progress made and emphasized the importance of the school’s motto, “Learning Today, Leaders Tomorrow.” He called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to nurture disciplined and responsible future leaders through a balance of academic excellence and moral training.

A former Registrar of the university, Cynthia S. Kpeglo-Freiku, traced the origin of the school to the need for quality basic education for children of university staff. She noted that the institution was envisioned as a model centre for best practices in teaching, research, and community engagement.

The Registrar of UHAS, Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, reaffirmed management’s expectations of professionalism, innovation, and accountability, stressing that the school must build on its solid foundation to achieve greater impact.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the school’s five-year strategic plan by the Vice Chancellor, Lydia Aziato. The plan focuses on key areas including educational excellence, administrative efficiency, staff development, improved learning environments, and enhanced stakeholder collaboration. She called for collective responsibility in ensuring its successful implementation.

The celebration also featured the inauguration of the school’s cultural troupe by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Frank Edwin, who encouraged learners to take pride in representing the institution.

The anniversary, themed “UBS at 5: A Solid Foundation for Excellence,” served as both a reflection on past achievements and a renewed commitment to nurturing well-rounded, confident, and morally upright future leaders.
