The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has dismissed as false a media report claiming that the late student, Mr. Ransford Amankwah Asomani, had been smoking marijuana prior to his fall from a hostel balcony.
In a press release dated February 10, 2026, the University said it had taken notice of a publication circulating on social media and some media platforms, particularly one attributed to GH One TV, alleging that KNUST had confirmed drug use before the incident. Management, however, stated unequivocally that no such confirmation has been made.
According to the statement, the University has not issued any pronouncement regarding the circumstances surrounding the studentโs death beyond its earlier official holding statement. It stressed that investigations into the incident are still ongoing and that no conclusions have been reached.
KNUST therefore disassociated itself from the publication and urged the public to disregard the report, describing it as unverified and not originating from the University. The institution also called on media houses to demonstrate professionalism and ethical responsibility when reporting on sensitive matters, especially those involving loss of life.
The statement, signed by Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, University Relations Officer, for the Registrar, reaffirmed KNUSTโs commitment to transparency and assured the public that accurate information would be communicated once investigations are concluded.
