The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) of the University of Ghana has marked 15 years of advancing research excellence, strengthening research governance, and promoting innovation across the institution.
The milestone celebration formed part of activities marking the climax of the 2026 Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa (DSRA), where the University reflected on RID’s contribution to building a stronger research ecosystem and positioning the University as a leading research-intensive institution in Africa.
Speaking at the event, Director of RID, Prof. David Dodoo-Arhin, said the anniversary provided an opportunity to celebrate the Directorate’s achievements while reaffirming its commitment to supporting impactful research across all disciplines.
He noted that DSRA has grown into a major university-wide platform over the past four years, showcasing research activities from various fields. This year’s celebration featured more than 50 activities, including seminars, exhibitions, innovation showcases, policy dialogues, and community engagement initiatives.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, commended RID for its role in strengthening the University’s research environment over the past 15 years.
She highlighted the Directorate’s contribution to improving research governance, expanding interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthening grant management systems, and building partnerships with industry, government, and international institutions.
Prof. Amfo said sustained investment in research and innovation remains critical to addressing national and global challenges and achieving sustainable development.
The celebration also featured the unveiling of a special edition of the University of Ghana Research Report, highlighting the institution’s research outputs, partnerships, and societal impact.
The event ended with the presentation of Thesis Innovation Awards to recognise outstanding student research and innovation, reinforcing the University’s commitment to developing the next generation of researchers and innovators.
