Daniel Tuffuor, a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) accused of murdering his girlfriend, Joana Deladem Yabani, has appeared before the court as legal proceedings continue more than a year after the incident.
Tuffuor, who remains in custody, was brought before the court on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, as the case continues after several adjournments since it began. The delays have reportedly caused further distress for Joana Yabani’s family, who continue to call for swift justice.
The case dates back to 27th February 2025, when Joana Yabani, a final-year Biological Sciences student at KNUST, was found dead near the University’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre during an early morning patrol by campus security personnel.
Following investigations, police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and arrested Tuffuor, who was identified as the prime suspect. Investigators alleged that he was captured in surveillance footage wearing the same outfit linked to the time of the incident. He was reportedly arrested shortly after the discovery of Joana’s body and was first arraigned before the court on 28th February 2025.
The incident attracted widespread public attention, with many students and Ghanaians demanding justice for Joana and calling for improved safety measures on university campuses.
The matter remains before the court as prosecutors continue to pursue the case against the accused.
