The Office of the Speaker of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) General Assembly at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has announced the indefinite suspension of the Final Sitting of the 59th General Assembly.
In an official communiqué dated 6th July 2026, the Office stated that the sitting was expected to receive and consider the mandatory constitutional reports of the outgoing SRC administration, including the Address on the State of Affairs of the SRC, the Auditor’s Report, and other statutory reports. It was also intended to facilitate the formal dissolution of the 59th General Assembly and the lawful constitution of the 60th General Assembly.
According to the Office of the Speaker, the suspension became necessary due to the absence of the required administrative, logistical, and institutional support from the current SRC administration, despite repeated engagements and sufficient opportunity to make the necessary arrangements.
The communiqué further noted that the SRC Constitution prescribes a clear framework for the transition and handing-over process, stressing that any handing-over ceremony conducted before the completion of the required constitutional procedures would be inconsistent with the Constitution.
The Office assured members of the General Assembly, the SRC Executive Council, University authorities, incoming SRC executives, invited guests, and the general student body that a new date for the Final Sitting would be announced once all constitutional, administrative, and logistical requirements have been met.
The communiqué was signed by Rt. Hon. Gavi Kekeli Komlavi, Speaker of the 59th General Assembly, and issued through Mary Mamle Tetteh, Clerk of the 59th SRC General Assembly.
