The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has held a workshop aimed at strengthening its international visibility and improving its performance in global university rankings.

The workshop, themed “Repositioning UMaT for Excellence in Global Visibility and Rankings,” brought together members of the university community to discuss strategies for improving its global academic standing.

It was facilitated by Mr. Victor Okeugo, Regional Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa at Times Higher Education (THE), who highlighted the growing importance of visibility, reputation, and global competitiveness in higher education.

He explained that universities today compete globally for students, research funding, partnerships, and innovation opportunities, making strategic visibility essential for institutional success.

The session also examined key ranking indicators such as teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook, as well as the role of SDG Impact Rankings in showcasing universities’ contributions to development goals.

Participants were encouraged to strengthen research output, improve data systems, and enhance international collaboration to boost UMaT’s global presence.
