The University of Ghana (UG) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international research collaboration following a high-level courtesy visit by a delegation from Loughborough University aimed at expanding partnerships in research, innovation and global engagement.

The delegation, led by Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Impact and Internationalisation, Ksenia Chmutina, held discussions with senior UG management on deepening existing academic and research cooperation between the two institutions.

Welcoming the delegation, UG’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development, Felix Ankomah Asante, reiterated the university’s commitment to impactful global partnerships that promote research excellence and innovation. He highlighted UG’s seven research priority areas, including health, climate change, food systems, artificial intelligence and development policy.

He noted that with a student population of about 70,000, UG continues to position itself as a leading research-intensive university in Africa.

Professor Chmutina described the visit as part of Loughborough University’s internationalisation strategy, adding that UG remains one of its key African partners due to long-standing collaboration in public health, energy, climate and legal research.

The discussions also highlighted ongoing joint projects in energy efficiency, healthcare ventilation systems, modern cooking energy solutions, and emerging research in computer science and law.

The visit further explored new research directions, including a Ghana-focused study on legal reforms in industrial and medicinal cannabis production aimed at promoting sustainability and economic inclusion.

UG management expressed appreciation for the partnership and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening global collaborations that support research, innovation and institutional development.
