Mahama Announces Shift Toward Technical Education and Plans to End Double-Track System
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his government will prioritise the expansion of technical and vocational education as part of efforts to align schooling with job creation and industry needs.

During a visit to Sawla Primary School, where he assessed the implementation of STEM education, the President explained that more technical and vocational institutions will be built to provide young people with practical skills for employment.

He noted that students who prefer hands-on training will be able to enrol directly into technical and vocational schools after basic education to acquire industry-relevant skills.

President Mahama also announced plans to phase out the double-track system in senior high schools by the end of 2027, saying it would allow all students to attend school at the same time and improve teaching and learning contact hours.

He further stated that the government will expand infrastructure such as dormitories, lecture halls and dining facilities to increase capacity and fully eliminate the double-track system across the country.
