Students are allegedly still occupying St. Theresa’s Hostel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) despite its official closure, according to Rent Commissioner Frederick Opoku.
Mr. Opoku expressed concern over the situation, stating that some residents have refused to vacate the facility even after authorities communicated the closure decision.
He noted that the development raises concerns about safety, compliance and the enforcement of accommodation regulations within the university community.
According to him, students who continue to stay in the hostel could face potential risks, particularly if the closure was influenced by safety, structural or regulatory issues.
He further indicated that while the closure directive had already been issued, enforcing the decision has remained challenging due to continued occupation by some students.
