The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, has officially announced the appointment of Professor Bernard Kumi-Boateng as its new Vice Chancellor, with his tenure set to begin on August 1, 2026.

The appointment comes after what the University described as a rigorous, transparent, and competitive selection process conducted by a duly constituted Search Committee established by the University Council. The Committee carried out an extensive search at both national and international levels, applying clearly defined criteria and undertaking a comprehensive evaluation of candidates before submitting its final recommendations.

Following a careful review of the report, the University Council approved the appointment of Prof. Kumi-Boateng, citing his distinguished academic record, proven leadership experience, and strong capacity to advance the strategic direction of the institution.

Speaking on behalf of the Council, its Chairperson, Professor (Mrs) Goski Alabi, expressed confidence in the new Vice Chancellor’s ability to lead the University into a new phase of growth and development. She noted that his track record in academic leadership, research, and institutional development made him a standout candidate during the selection process.

According to her, the Council is particularly optimistic about his vision and integrity, and looks forward to working closely with him to strengthen UMaT’s position as a leading institution in mining, engineering, and applied sciences.

The Council also took the opportunity to commend members of the Search Committee for their professionalism, diligence, and commitment to ensuring a credible, merit-based process that reflects the highest standards of university governance.

Prof. Kumi-Boateng is expected to assume office at a time when UMaT continues to expand its academic and research footprint, with expectations that his leadership will further enhance the University’s reputation both locally and internationally.
