Ghana Issues Public Advisory After WHO Declares Ebola as Global Health Emergency
The Ministry of Health has issued a public advisory following the World Health Organisation’s declaration of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) due to its severity and risk of cross-border spread.

Although no cases have been recorded in Ghana or other West African countries, the Ministry is urging the public to remain calm but vigilant and strictly observe all preventive measures.

Ebola is a highly infectious and often fatal disease transmitted through direct contact with infected body fluids or contaminated surfaces.

The Ministry has advised the public to practise regular hand hygiene, use alcohol-based sanitisers, and ensure handwashing facilities are available in homes, schools, workplaces and public spaces.

It also encouraged event organisers to provide sanitising stations at all gatherings to reduce the risk of infection.

Citizens are further urged to rely only on official health updates and avoid spreading rumours or misinformation that could cause panic.

People showing symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea or bleeding are advised to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility.

The Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service say they are strengthening surveillance and preparedness systems to protect public health and contain any potential outbreak.
