Two of Ghana’s brightest young athletes, Owusu Blessed, the first Ghanaian school athlete to run 400 meters in 45 seconds, and Gladys Boateng (Gaza), along with their coaches Mustapha Mohammed and Francisca Azumah, are set to compete at the Africa Youth Athletes Development Project 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya as part of preparations for the Youth Olympic Games.
Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation and MP for Buem Constituency, met with the athletes to encourage discipline in training, academics, nutrition, and personal conduct, stressing that their achievements are commendable but require sustained focus and consistency.
As part of his support, Minister Adams personally contributed 500 dollars to each athlete for their preparations and pledged continued support for their education. He also emphasized Ghana’s commitment to grassroots sports development, including the provision of standard infrastructure like running tracks, while recognizing the dedication of coaches in nurturing world-class talent.
The engagement follows a recent bilateral meeting with the President of Zimbabwe, where Ghana signed an MOU on sports development, reflecting the government’s broader vision to invest in young athletes and elevate the nation’s sporting standards.
