President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Government of Ghana will introduce a free visa regime for all African visitors, starting May 25, which coincides with Africa Day. The policy is designed to promote Ghana as a hub for Pan-Africanism while stimulating tourism, trade, and cultural exchange across the continent.
President Mahama made the announcement during the inaugural state visit of President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Ghana, highlighting the importance of fostering unity and cooperation among African nations. The free visa will form part of a new e-Visa policy to be launched next month, making travel to Ghana easier and more accessible for African citizens.
The President also assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue its efforts to secure additional Visa Waiver Agreements for Ghanaian passport holders. Since last year, Ghana has successfully negotiated 23 Visa Waiver Agreements, reflecting the country’s growing influence and commitment to facilitating mobility for its citizens across the continent.
Through this reform, Ghana expects a major boost in tourism revenue, increased business and trade opportunities, and stronger people-to-people connections with other African countries. President Mahama described the initiative as a milestone for Pan-African solidarity, stating that it will reinforce Ghana’s reputation as a welcoming destination for all Africans.
