The government of Ghana has announced plans to establish a second campus of the University of Mines and Technology at Kenyasi No. 2 to expand tertiary education, provide more job opportunities, and equip young Ghanaians with skills for the country’s industrial development.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu explained that the new campus will offer specialised programmes in mining, agribusiness, and entrepreneurship, designed to align with national economic priorities. He also highlighted that the project will create jobs for teaching and non-teaching staff while promoting research and innovation in key sectors.
The initiative is part of a broader national plan under John Dramani Mahama to decentralise higher education, strengthen technical and vocational training, and prepare students for emerging industries. Consultations with education leaders, including former Education Minister Christine Amoako-Nuamah, are ongoing to ensure sustainable growth and effective implementation.
The Kenyasi No. 2 campus is expected to complement existing UMaT programmes while responding to labour market demands and supporting Ghana’s long-term industrial transformation.
