The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) has announced an increase in the price of sachet water, citing rising production costs driven by global supply disruptions.
The new pricing structure will take effect from Monday, April 6, 2026. Under the revised rates, the ex-factory price for a bag of 30 sachets of 500ml water has been set at GH¢8, while the ex-truck price is pegged at GH¢10. Retailers are expected to sell a bag at no more than GH¢15.
According to NASPAWAP, the price adjustment has become necessary due to a sharp rise in the cost of key raw materials, particularly polymers used in packaging. The association noted that the situation has been worsened by the ongoing Iran conflict, which has disrupted supply chains and increased international prices.
In a statement issued on April 2, the association explained that producers are struggling to absorb the increasing cost of inputs. It emphasised that the new prices are recommended guidelines aimed at ensuring uniformity across the market and sustaining operations within the sector.
NASPAWAP has urged retailers and distributors to comply with the pricing structure to maintain fairness and stability in the market. The association added that the adjustment is essential to ensure continuous production and the steady supply of safe drinking water.
The increase is expected to directly affect households and small businesses, as sachet water remains the most widely consumed source of drinking water across many parts of Ghana.
