KNUST SRC Donates Chairs to Library to Enhance Study Conditions
The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has donated six chairs to the university’s main library to improve seating conditions for students and support ongoing facility upgrades.
SRC President Shakir Is-Haq Waiz explained that the donation was prompted by concerns over the poor state of existing furniture, with some students previously using makeshift classroom chairs unsuitable for a modern academic environment. “We realized the chairs were in bad shape, and after discussions with management, we decided to provide seating support,” he said.
University Librarian Dr. Richard Bruce Lamptey welcomed the donation, emphasizing the importance of flexible and inclusive study spaces that cater to different learning styles. He highlighted plans to upgrade the library, including accessible entrances, enhanced research sections, and recreational learning areas for board games and other student engagement activities.
Director of the Directorate of Student Affairs (DOSA), Prof. Marian Asantewah Nkansah, praised the SRC’s initiative, noting that modest interventions like this can significantly enhance the university environment. She encouraged students to care for the chairs to ensure they serve their intended purpose.
The donation marks a step in the SRC’s broader efforts to improve student welfare and foster a more conducive academic experience on campus.
