The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has officially matriculated 2,016 regular students for the 2025/2026 academic year, in concurrent ceremonies held at its Ho and Hohoe campuses on Saturday, January 31, 2026. The matriculation, a statutory requirement for formal admission into the university, involved students taking the matriculation oath and signing the register, marking their official induction into the UHAS community.

At the main ceremony in Ho, Vice Chancellor Professor Lydia Aziato welcomed the students, praising them for choosing UHAS as the institution to further their studies. She encouraged the students to adhere strictly to the Matriculation Oath, observe the rules and regulations outlined in the Student Handbook, and embrace discipline as a cornerstone of academic success. Professor Aziato also urged students to be mindful of their immediate environment, report suspicious activities, and take pride in maintaining the university’s infrastructure, emphasizing the collective responsibility to preserve safety, beauty, and functionality on campus.

The Vice Chancellor noted that student intake was reduced by 27% from the previous academic year due to infrastructure challenges but assured that university management, with government support, is actively addressing the limitations. She highlighted UHAS’s investment in technology to combat academic dishonesty and promote integrity, while also emphasizing new programmes aimed at making further education more accessible. These include Weekend Master’s Programmes at the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health and sandwich options for Master of Philosophy in Nursing and Midwifery, designed to support working professionals.

On the Hohoe campus, the ceremony was presided over by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Frank Edwin, who read the Vice Chancellor’s speech. Student representatives on both campuses delivered inspiring addresses, expressing their commitment to discipline, resilience, lifelong learning, and the responsible pursuit of knowledge in their respective fields of study. The speeches underscored the cohort’s readiness to embark on a journey of professional development, service, and character building as future healthcare practitioners.

UHAS, the first and only state university in Ghana entirely dedicated to the training of healthcare professionals, currently offers 23 undergraduate and 26 postgraduate programmes across various health and allied sciences fields. The University recently received accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council to launch the Graduate Entry Medical Programme (GEMP), a four-and-a-half-year course for holders of Bachelor of Science or equivalent science-based degrees. Admission for the first GEMP cohort is ongoing, with eligibility requiring a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5. Eligible disciplines include Physician Assistantship, Pharmacy, Nursing, Midwifery, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Biomedical Engineering, Laboratory Sciences, Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Radiography, and other related fields.

With these developments, UHAS continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution for healthcare education in Ghana, promoting academic excellence, research, and the holistic development of healthcare professionals who are equipped to meet the country’s evolving medical and public health needs.
