GTEC Upholds Suspension of TEWU Representation on University Councils Amid Ongoing Impasse
The Tudu Center for Leadership and Development, a Tamale-based NGO, has sued the University for Development Studies (UDS) for alleged intellectual property infringement. The lawsuit, filed at the High Court in Tamale, accuses UDS of falsely presenting the NGO’s cultural initiative—the Dance for Education Group—as the “UDS Dance Ensemble,” misleading the public and appropriating the group’s goodwill.

The NGO, which created the group in 2022 to promote education through cultural dance in northern Ghana, claims UDS began using the group’s name and performers without formal agreement after a performance at a UDS event in February 2024. Although the university apologized and discussed a partnership, the plaintiff says UDS never signed the proposed MoU but continued unauthorized use of the group.

Tudu Center is seeking a perpetual injunction, GH¢2 million in damages, a public apology, and a court declaration that UDS committed reverse passing off. UDS has not yet responded to the claims.
