UDS Delegation Pays Courtesy Call on New Leadership of Ghana Commission for UNESCO; Pro Vice-Chancellor Appeals for UNESCO Category 2 Research Centre in Northern Ghana
A delegation from the University for Development Studies (UDS), led by Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan, visited the Ghana Commission for UNESCO to congratulate its new leadership and propose the establishment of a UNESCO Category 2 Research Centre at UDS. Prof. Alhassan emphasized the need for equitable research development, noting that such centers exist in southern Ghana but not in the north.

The proposed center would promote inclusive development, interdisciplinary research, capacity building, and align with UDS’s mission to serve underserved communities. The Secretary-General of the Commission, Dr. Tahidu Damba—himself a UDS staff member—welcomed the proposal and pledged to engage stakeholders on its feasibility.

The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to deepen collaboration in education, research, culture, and youth development.
