Meet Sylvester Kwakye: KNUST Medical Student And Emerging Poet
Sylvester Kwakye, a final-year medical student at KNUST, is also a rising literary voice. He’s the author of several micro-chapbooks including Ode to My Clinical Rotation and How to Merchandise Crime, with a new work, Valentine’s Day Travelog, inspired by his single mother, set to release soon.
Sylvester draws from personal experiences, family, and national issues, blending poetry with a deep sense of reflection. Influenced by Rudyard Kipling, Robert Frost, and Ghanaian mentors, he sees poetry as transformative therapy. Despite the demands of medical school, he remains committed to writing and guiding others through the Kumasi Writing Cohort. His advice? “Go all out for it. The world needs more poets.”
