UG Vice-Chancellor Elected Vice-Chair of Worldwide Universities Network Partnership Board
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has been elected Vice-Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Partnership Board. The announcement was made during a series of high-level engagements held in Hong Kong and hosted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
The meetings formed part of the WUN Presidents Forum and related governance sessions, which brought together university leaders from across the globe to deliberate on strategic academic collaborations and the evolving role of higher education institutions.
Prof. Amfo participated in the WUN Presidents Forum as a panelist on the opening roundtable discussion themed “Navigating Society’s Expectations of Universities and Meeting Obligations.” She shared insights on the University of Ghana’s model for community engagement, stakeholder collaboration and leveraging research for public benefit. Her remarks underscored the vital role of universities as civic anchors and innovation hubs amid growing societal demands.
In addition to the forum, Prof. Amfo took part in the business meetings of the WUN Partnership Board, contributing to strategic decisions that will shape the future direction of the network. Her election as Vice-Chair reflects the University’s forward-looking strategic priority of engaging and partnering with international educational institutions to achieve global impact.

Commenting on the new role, Prof. Amfo described her election as “a responsibility I embrace with purpose and humility,” noting that it affirms the University’s commitment to strengthening its global partnerships and advancing impactful research.
While in Hong Kong, the Vice-Chancellor also engaged with Ghanaian scholars and students based in the region, reinforcing the University’s diaspora networks and institutional outreach.
She expressed appreciation to CUHK and WUN for their hospitality and excellent organisation and detailed the importance of international collaborations in achieving the University's vision of becoming a world-class research-intensive institution.
