Council Chair Challenges University To Become Global Hub For Asante Cultural Studies
Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, Chairman of KNUST’s Governing Council, urged the College of Humanities and Social Sciences to position KNUST as the global hub for Asante Cultural Studies during a recent visit. He emphasized preserving Ghana’s intangible heritage through research and documentation to resolve chieftaincy disputes and generate revenue. Key proposals include:

- Developing a Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) for data-driven development in the Ashanti Region.
- Collaborating with the College of Engineering to create a Twi-to-English translation app for the justice system.
- Reviewing KNUST’s legal framework to reflect modern governance needs, involving expertise from the Law faculty.

Prof. Charles Marfo, Provost, outlined the College’s focus on entrepreneurial education, digital readiness for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and integrating sustainability and ESG principles. Prof. Ahmed Agyapong, Dean of the School of Business, highlighted efforts to incorporate climate change awareness into academic programs. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson noted KNUST’s commitment to solar energy initiatives, despite high costs, with dedicated budgets for each college.

The Council Chair encouraged a comprehensive solar energy project, climate finance exploration, and cross-departmental research for grants and partnerships. Prof. Marfo pledged to align the College’s plans with KNUST’s broader development goals.
