Quantify Emissions, Drive Climate Policy – KNUST Council Chair Demands During College Of Science Visit
Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, Chairman of KNUST’s Governing Council, urged the College of Science to lead national efforts in climate impact assessment and greenhouse gas inventory during a recent visit. He emphasized quantifying industrial emissions, verifying sectoral data, and positioning KNUST as a hub for knowledge production, particularly in green hydrogen and coding education. He also tasked the Mathematics Department with optimizing industrial production parameters for revenue.

Professor Leonard Amekudzi, Provost of the College of Science, highlighted increased grants, international research collaborations, and upgraded facilities. Plans include establishing a Centre of Excellence for Climate and Environment, demand-driven postgraduate courses, international exchanges, and a robotics lab. Air quality monitoring devices have been installed in the Ashanti Region.

Board members called for enhanced support, including a national science research fund and collaboration with the Herbal Medicine Department for natural product research. Vice-Chancellor Professor Rita Akosua Dickson urged contributions to KNUST’s endowment fund to address resource constraints.
