UCC Hosts Workshop on Regenerative Agriculture for Extension Officers
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), in collaboration with the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), organized a three-day workshop on Regenerative Agriculture for agricultural extension officers. Themed “Empowering Agricultural Extension Officers for Regenerative Agriculture in Ghana,” the workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills to enhance sustainable farming practices.
Prof. Henry D. Acquah, Dean of the School of Agriculture, emphasized the importance of regenerative agriculture in promoting self-sustaining systems that benefit both farmers and the environment. He encouraged officers to apply their new knowledge in the field.
Dr. Godwin Atser, SAA Country Director, highlighted the role of Integrated Soil Fertility Management and Conservation Agriculture in Africa’s regenerative efforts. He called for a rebranding of agricultural extension, greater use of digital tools, collaborative partnerships, and data-driven approaches—particularly to tap into the carbon market.
Prof. Martin Bosompem, Head of the Department, stressed ongoing support for extension officers and appealed for investment in Supervised Enterprise Projects (SEPs) to enhance student research and community impact.
